Granular sample player.

Main Difference to gg.rainer is that the grain players are not synced)

Voices: choose number of grain players (up to 20, 0=mute). WARNING: more voices takes heavy effect at CPU-load!

Note that low density with many voices gives the same effect as less voices with a higher density but it much more expensive.

The bang between the two menus is for resetting the kk to the sample length if changed without reloading the sample in kk.


Top menus (from left to right, top to bottom)::

Choose sample from buffer_host. Select the playback direction of each grain (forward, backwards, random)

Select the range of playback_speed slider.

Ramp for playback_speed slider. "S" stop-ramp (for playback_speed slider).

The bang next to the playback_speed slider triggers one-shot of playback_selection.


Waveform:

start/ lang- in the waveform display you can select the play-position "start" within the sound-file (if the selection length "lang" is 0) with the random slider below.

rand lang- you can select a range from which the grains are taken (the random range goes from the "start"-position to the right. If you select a range in the waveform display (or the "lang"-number-box) only when you choose the selection length "lang" greater than zero the "pb speed" (playback speed) parameter will take effect.

pb speed- the play-position of the grains will scroll through the sound-file with the chosen speed (somehow match with the "rand"-value). "1" means normal speed. If you set "pb speed" and "pitch" to 1 and random to a low value (0-5) you will get something that should sound quite similar to the original sound-file (also depending on the "grain" value)

In the green number-box you can select the pitch of grain-playback (in semitones).

In the field next to this you can type a "chord" (in semitones), meaning:

0, 4, 7: would be a major chord

0, -12: normal speed & one octave down

0, -0.1, 0.1: also takes floats

0,0,0,-7: 3 of 4 grains will be played at base pitch, 1 of 4 one fifth lower (average).


If the field is empty it is equivalent to "0". Each grain takes the pitch randomly from the list, meaning you can enter your list either with "return", which will also deselect the text-field, or with "tab" which will keep the text-field selected.


"NOTE"-

note-mode: play the exact pitches of the chord.

slide-mode: choose the pitch randomly from the range given by the chord.


Beneath the pitch field you have the grain length-slider.

grLeng: grain length (in ms@ pitch 1)

grVAR: grain length variation (in % of grain length)


Density: "Density" is a random operator. It chooses either to play all grains (100) or drop grains randomly (the value is like the percentage of grains to play). "Density" set to 0 means no grains are played (you won't hear anything). It interacts strongly with "pitch" and "grain".

%gr: "%gr" is a non-random operator to change the density, meaning you can select how much of each grain will be played (from beginning) in %. 100 means the whole grain will be played. 50 means only the first half will be played.
